Model Railroading > Key Imports Santa Fe 3765 Class restorationDate: 05/01/16 12:29 Key Imports Santa Fe 3765 Class restoration Author: SPED I found this engine at the Bakersfield train show last March, owner said the cat knocked it off the table and the damage was extensive. After replacing the Crossheads, re-quarting the drivers, straightening the cab roof, stripping and repainting this is what it looks like now. Most of the screws have been replaced with NWSL panhead phillips head screws. Scalecoat paint with a Testors semi-gloss top coat. I added a TCS M1 decoder and 12v lamp.
Ed One of the crossheads snapped and flew to an unknown part of the shag carpet, that is why I had to get new ones from Precision Scale Co.. Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 05/02/16 06:30 by SPED. Date: 05/01/16 12:42 Re: Key 3765 Class restoration Author: BNModeler WOW!!!

Date: 05/01/16 20:50 Re: Key 3765 Class restoration Author: SPED Thank you guys, I really like resurrecting these gems, this Key Imports is a nice model, lots of detail. I worked too many hours on this to make any profit but it's not about that, I like getting something that was most likely worthless and making it a choice model again.

There is a dent in the sheet metal cylinder cover - very prototypical! Cheers, Jack Date: 05/04/16 07:22 Re: Key 3765 Class restoration Author: SPED Jack,
Yes, I saw that after I painted it, not that I would have fixed it because of access from behind to pull the dent out, there were a few other blemishes on the engine and tender. These brass engines always have a little "character" from years of use, in and out of the box, things get broken, bent, lost. All in all this one is a great engine, runs good and takes paint great. Ed Date: 05/04/16 20:51 Re: Key 3765 Class restoration Author: cabman Very nice restoration which is a lot of fun, in my opinion. One question, though. Is it my imagination or does the cab slope downward a little?
