Model Railroading > The 2016 Penn Central - Found a perfect color for steel mills...Date: 05/04/16 22:29 The 2016 Penn Central - Found a perfect color for steel mills... Author: navarch2 I have been forever looking for a replacement for Grimy Black, to use to paint the steel mill structures on the 2016 PC...and I found it at Michaels...in a Krylon rattle can :)
The top picture shows some walls and parts I painted with the "Chalky Pain" called "Anvil Gray". Very flat finish which will allow me to do extensive weathering...and it is in a huge can and goes on smoothly. Had never seen this before so I am going back to buy the other 8 cans they had... :) Bottom picture can aid you in finding it.... sorry about that... Bob Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/04/16 22:32 by navarch2. (assuming you use if for thirst - if you use it for anti corrosion or paint stripper, it might be safer.)

Some other big spray cans to consider: both Krylon and Rustoleum make dead flat camouflage colors for the hunting market (think duck blinds, flat boats, etc). The khaki, brown, and olive drab colors are excellent for modeler use. For shadowing, try the dirt cheap Walmart store brand flat black, at about 2 bucks a can. It doesn't actually deliver a lot of paint, which makes it perfect for subtle spray coats. The swing bridge I had posted in the past was painted with that Walmart Flat Black....it does go on in a fine mist.... I still paint locomotives and rolling stock with an airbrush with Scalecoat though and structues largely with Tamiya except for ththe steel mill.. By the way I did try it as a paint stripper years and years ago....back when that scare first started.....did nothing. rschonfelder Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The paint is OK but that other shhh...stuff is > going to kill you. Just like grimy black and dead flat.
