KMT HO Model
Author: 28hogger

Info Please.. A friend of mine pick up these coaches at a yard sale for $10. He picked them up because he just like them he's not a modeler. He asked me the value and I have no idea.
They lack a lot of detail but they are made from heavy cast aluminum, very well done. They where made to be a unit no couplers just a draw bar and pin between each coach. They are equipped with the old Central Valley sprung two axle passenger trucks. The only markings on them is KMT and part numbers. I'm not familiar KMT, and I have never seen cast models made this well. Could they be a Kemtron model from many years ago? All In all they are very well made and heavy.
Thanks in advance for any info.

Warren

Quote, "KMT is an acronym for Kumata Models, a Japanese brass builder that operated from the late 1950s to the 1970s. Most of their US prototype models were HO scale models imported by LMB, Alco Models, Trains, Inc., and several smaller dealers."

I might add that there was another KMT firm, that was an acronym for Kris Model Trains. I believe they were mostly O scale though.

The cast passenger door on the middle car seems to be mounted on the "outside" vs inside the body.

The extruded aluminum bodies look like Herkimer. I wonder if they supplied the raw extrusions for these models.

They dont look like the right sides for some reason and dont think OK Herk had cast part but that was about sixty years ago.................. Someone re ran them a few years back by the way seems they came in two versions also shortys and full length. Back in the grey matter..... Boyd
