The cat that destroyed a railroad.
Author: riorita

I'm sure you all know to keep the cat off your model railroad. I did and managed to do so for three years or so but she was determined to get in there and finally did. This is the 4th or 5th time she found the door open.
A word of warning. One time I tried to lift her off. She fought back and between the two of us caused more damage than if I had left her alone.
For several reasons the damged wont be fixed and the RioRita RR will become a fallen flag.

     Six pictures total.

Next time do not forget to build a carpeted cat perch at the window with the curtain open so the cat can be entertained with things moving outside. That may keep the layout less interesting.

Yep, yep. My son's cat Larry, who looks identical to your cat, should it add 20 pounds, is a routine destroyer of my efforts. What adds insult to injury is that he is only hunting moths; is afraid of mice. Luckily, he is almost too fat to fit through the dog door in the laundry room.

Larry loves me because I give him all sorts of treats. I'm hopeful...

That's what you get for using kitty litter for ballast!

I'm allergic to cats.  I have nothing against them, but I don't like the idea of them jumping on everything.  We don't have that problem with  our dogs.

Looks like the cat won out in that cornfield meet with the SF Geep.

Where was the dispatcher in dropping the signal?

The only use I know of for old Tyco or Life Like locomotives is for conducting feline terrorism. There's something about the high pitch gear noise from those clunkers that scares the bejeebers out of our cats.

For maximum effect, someone could shout "alkalb akhbar! ("Dog is Great! In Arabic) during the attack to strike fear in the hearts of the infidel cat.

On a DCC layout with sound, has anybody tried the horn, or brake release sounds?  I'd think that might work also.

I have to double check my train room door as well as
my office room door.My office has more models than
personall bills.
Cats are courious and want to get into everything. They
mean no harm.

Mine don't "fight"back. They just roll around on the layout
and cause more damage. The best way is to go back to
how their mother took care of them.Get them by the nap
of the neck and they will do whatever you wish.
Get rid of the kiddies?  NEVER,NO WAY!
They are family.

I call my cat 'Catzilla' whenever she gets too close to the layout.

My house was overrun with mice and rats. As a last resort I went to the Los Angeles animal shelter and got a 'fiesty' kitten. She soon took care of the varmints and then became my friend. My wife doesn't think too much of her. They are curious. She couldn't wait to get in the train room.

Won't help - most dogs are ultimately afraid of cats - all it takes is for the cat to land one good claw swipe on/into a dog's nose and the pecking order is set in stone :) I had a cat about 10 years ago that would sit in wait atop my car and leap off and charge dogs passing by on the street.  I think the dogs were so shocked at the sight of a charging,  aggressive offense-oriented cat, that they refused to rise to the bait...lol...

The plan must have worked for the cat...he was never once bitten or chased off by a dog....the cat died of old age...14 years old in people-years...

One of my neighbors who owned a good-sized mixed breed dog who was very friendly would see me outside the house and call to me as she approached with her dog, and ask "where is Belzebub?"....

It's ironic you post these pics at this time as I am about to adopt a cat for my home. Fortunately last year I sold all my trains (0) Gage so I wont have to worry about the cat problem. Thanks for sharing them. I really like them.
