Rapido new product teaser
Author: rapidotrains

Hi all,We've spent the last three months working on a revolutionary new HO scale project. This model will boldly go where no Rapido model has gone before. It truly is a new direction for us.

Below is a teensy-tiny part of it.
The official launch will hopefully be next month. But we need to finish the video first.... and we haven't started it yet.

Best regards,

Jason

Looks like a Sinclair EOT antenna.  I have a 1:1 scale version in my railroadiana collection. :)

Wow, a flat iron with DCC and sound? Finally I'll be able to press my collection of HO scale Hawaiian shirts! Marvelous!

Hmmmmm.....boldly go eh?  Sounds like a P42 to me, I mean, they do look like an old school shuttle craft.

When I first saw the picture, a P42 is what popped into my head.  Though, to say they're going in a totally new direction?  I know Hornby came out about 15 years or so ago with a true live steam for HO.  I wonder if Jason & friends are working on a working HO-scale FDL-16?

Though to follow Rapido's progress in their attraction to Canadian diesel passenger engines:
  • FA-2/FPA-2 - announced
  • F40PH + variants - done
  • FL9 - Done
  • FP9 - Done
  • RDC - Done
  • LRC - Done
  • TurboTrain - Done
What other significant (either in the past or current) Canadian diesel locos are there that Rapido hasn't made yet?  The only ones I can think of are either EMD E units or P42's.  Both have been done by other manufacturers (of different quality of production), but re-doing at their high standards an already-produced loco hasn't scared Rapido in the past, nor do I think it will stop them in the future.

    Um, FL9s weren't Canadian.

Something Canadian but the Canadians have waited a long time and now Rapido is granting many wishes!  I'm waiting for the mid phase Amtrak F40PH's.

Revolutionary?  Boldly go?  New Direction?

Radio controlled, battery powered locomotive?

Or it could be HO scale models of the Enterprise, spin-offs and decendents.

I can give you guys a bit more info. There are both Canadian and American paint schemes.

Has it been done before as a not-very-good model? Sort of. Ish. A bit. Yes and no. I can try to think up more wishy-washy terms. But the most accurate answer really is "kind of."

That's about all I can say. I've been neck-deep in this for a LONG time and I have to be careful not to spill too many beans before the official launch.

As with any of these teasers, some people won't give a hoot when we properly announce it because we can never do one model that everyone wants. But I think the interest in this project will be pretty far-reaching. And there is the potential for many more paint schemes and variations beyond what we will be announcing in the first run.

If this isn't a P40/P42 I am going to be very upset.

If it is, my pocketbook will be the one upset.

Well, IT's VERY CLEAR that it won't be an EP 5 in N scale.

Keep up the good work and I will continue to wait and search

It's the FL9's bastard grandson, the P32AC-DM. The dual mode version of the P40/42, along with the aforementioned "Mud Missiles". Has it been done? Only via a Shapeways shell (the "sorta" in Jason's previous post).

All in all, probably not. At least, not right away.

RS18u - many of them built by the CPR and then sold off to both American and Canadian short lines.
