Nice B&O Tunnel Fronts by Alkem Scale Models
Author: globalethanol

Finally got around to assembling the tunnel fronts for my Cumberland Sub layout. These are made of clear acrylic plastic and require assembly. After assembly I sandblasted them with 100 grit aluminum oxide and painted them with Testor`s Model Master acrylics. I made the liners by cutting out and laminating pieces of inch thick foam. I filled in the seems with lightweight spackle and sanded with 400 grit paper. the liners were attached to the back of the portals with 3M transfer tape. I used a few different shades of weathering to make it to the final result. Bernard Kempinski also made a custom 3 track portal for the tunnel at Harper`s Ferry, W.Va. form a scale drawing. Alkem Scale models makes a variety of fronts for other railroads also. Check them out.

Those are really nice. You can tell some serious time was spent on each.

Now if they would only do Rio Grande's-Utah Ry.'s standard peaked concrete portals the world would be a better pace!

I will have to try and model all that rock at Harper`s Ferry. Time to practice with the carving tools.
