Kato N-scale model of real Metra Christmas Train for children
Author: RuleG

Every year, Operation North Pole (ONP) charters a special Metra train with special wraps along the exteriors and interiors of the cars. ONP works with Chicago’s major children’s hospitals, providing a day of fun and fantasy for families who have a child battling a life threatening illness by hosting a fantasy trip to the North Pole.

Each years' design is different. This train runs on the Union Pacific Northwest Line of the Metra commuter rail network serving the Chicago area.

Kato has partnered with ONP to produce a replica of the 2015 Christmas train.  A portion of the proceeds from every sale of this train set goes to ONP to help fund running this annual train.

The set, which will be available in October 2016, includes one F40PH locomotive and three bi-level coaches.  The suggested retail price is $195 and the sets can be ordered through ONP.

More information about the train, ONP and Kato's replica can be found here:

Very neat!  Too bad that they never make it onto the Rock Island district that I (sort of) have a model of.
