Athearn's latest Facebook update shows a CAD drawing of a Genesis HO SDP40F.  Says they will reveal it at the 2016 NMRA convention.

For those that don't know, the National Train Show will be early next month at the Indiana Convention Center.

Hope this helps.

If one looks closely at the Athearn announcement, next to the SDP40F CAD shot is a shot of an Amtrak P-Motor in the Veterans scheme, or am I seeing things?

This is probably one of the worst kept secrets in recent times of a new model release, about time tho!

Those Vetrans units came out about a year ago.

Kato's N scale unit must have forced their hand :)

I would agree, old news. The beans on this was spilled back in Novemeber at "TRAINFEST" in Milwaukee. Kato had nothing to do with it. I personally will be waiting for the ATSF SDF40-2 which, IMHO will bring more sales than the Amtrak version of this locomotive. All things considered, a welcome addition to the Genesis Line.

Definitely welcome and flat it's "official" now, old news or not.  I'd expect them 2nd quarter of next year; I'll be interested at least in a pair of the classic red nose pointless arrow SDP40F's and might be cajoled into one of the ATSF versions.

Cheers, Jim Fitch

Their recent announcements have been eleven months out.

I'll take two of each Amtrak scheme plus the EMD scheme(?).

There are at least three EMD schemes for SDP40F EMD testbed units. =)  I'd love to see that too, so keep sending in those cards and letters to Athearn! =)

Harry

In other words, you are saying that there are more modelers of 1980s/1990s-era Santa Fe who would be interested in this locomotive

than

those interested in the SDP40F who are modeling Burlington Northern, Chessie System, Conrail, Milwaukee Road, Missouri Pacific, Illinois Central Gulf, Louisville & Nashville, Penn Central, Richmond Federicksburg & Potomac, Seaboard Coast Line, Southern Pacific, Union Pacific and Western Pacific as well as the 1970s-era Santa Fe combined?

I don't think so.

As Santa Fe units, the SD40F-2s also visited other railroads from time to time, and their careers on ATSF were much longer than their time as Amtrak units, so I wouldn't so sure about which version will sell more models.
