Here is a VIDEO of the HO Scale 5-engine, 167-car freight train which was run last week on the Chesapeake Bay & Western (CB&W) Model Railroad in Grafton, Virginia  (7 miles south of historic Yorktown).  We are holding a FREE public Open House next Saturday, July 30.... from 10am until 4pm (one of several each year), and while most trains during the Open House won't be quite as long as this one, LOL, there will be some doozies to see running:  all eras, all types, all variations of interest and enthusiasm of and about TRAINS.

The VIDEO HERE was taken by club member CALEB WRIGHT. For those interested in freelance railroading, the lead locomotive, the green-painted "SRL" unit, is one of the lines in Dean Freytag's "CARDINAL SYSTEM" [along with "DAVIES STEEL"], as seen in various magazines during the 1980s.  The other motive power, Southern Railway engine, No. 2771k, and the ex-ICG unit (which was found at a show in Nashville, TN. during 1993) are owned, along with the SRL unit, by Yours Truly... and the two, blue "CHESAPEAKE BAY" [...& Western] units are club-owned (these are all D.C.-powered units; we also run D.C.C.-powered locomotives).  CB&W is Virginia's largest [static/non-modular] HO Scale model railroad, and if a train is running "track speed," it will normally take around 45 minutes or so to make the run from end-point to end-point across all the various levels of the rail line, many of which can be seen in this video.

IN THIS VIDEO, the train is seen negotiating the main helix at the center of the building which houses the layout.  Four levels are taken up by the moving train, then Caleb pans the scene around to see the train exiting the helix into a horseshoe curve, and down to the next-lowest level of the layout (there are several levels).  Finally, he the images pans back and forth to reveal more:  of just how immense the sheer LENGTH of this HO scale train is, rolling along the various curves and helix-turns within the shot's immediate area.  (Yes, all 5 engines were powered units.)

ENJOY THE SHOW!

There is ANOTHER video which is too large to be uploaded to TRAINORDERS.COM's system; you can view it HERE:

Nice to see some of Deans equipment still running around. Hard to believe he's been gone almost 6 years. !! . ---   Ken McCorry
