Remove white haze from alcohol from clear plastic?
Author: Jimmies

I made a dumb mistake and got dullcote on clear window plastic. So, I used isopropyl alcohol to remove the dullcote. It worked like a charm and only took a few seconds, but the alcohol then left a white haze on the clear plastic. How would you recommend I remove that from the clear?

Don't think you can. You could trying polishing it out with Brasso. But I wouldn't get my hopes up.

I've had luck using Micro Sol to remove matte finish spray (not dullcote) from windows.

Alcohol clouds dullcote, it doesn't remove it without allot of scrubbing.

Have you considered modeling dirty windows? It's a natch for SP equipment.

If the haze is on the surface you can somethimes scratch it off gently with your finger nail. Otherwise it's penetrated the plastic and you might then try heating it with a hairdryer...gently at first to see if it is removed by evaporating out of the plastic. If you're grtting desperate you could try another solvent like maybe paint thinner or mineral oil.

If they don't work you're onto new windows!

I've had luck in removing film from windows by using Future Acrylic Floor Wax.  Try it, you can't hurt anything!

I'm not sure that removes the film, it just coats it with a glossy finish. Like putting Glosscote over a flat finish. I've used Future to coat clouded auto headlights and it makes them "good as new" for about six months. That would be my suggestion to the OP.

Alcohol will craze dullcoat.  A good fix is an overspray with glosscoat, and then you can re-apply the dullcoat AFTER masking the glass.
