G scale 2 rail problem

On a simple old G scale circle, trains only run clockwise!?!? Various power packs and engines were tested, all good. Wires and track are good. Reverse switches are good. Engine direction changed and they run... Only clockwise.  Are we in a Twilight Zone episode?

Has to be something crossed in the wires somehow. Only possible answer for that on an analog layout

Or a diode is. In line someplace where it shouldnt

Same thing happens with cows, they can only go around a mountain one way.
