Model Railroading > W&LE Late 90's ConsistDate: 12/06/16 17:54 W&LE Late 90's Consist Author: Poker2662 Hello all,
Been a while since I've posted on the MR board. I've had zero time to make improvements to my 16x4 layout lately with college prioities, but I did recently pick up a couple of former Southern GP35's patched for the W&LE in a trade with a friend. During their test run on the layout I couldn't help but take a few photos as well. W&LE 2650, 2645, and 4003 with a mix of older W&LE stone cars and various freight. The 4003 trailing in the unique "script" scheme only ran around in that scheme for a handful of years, so this would be about 1998-2000. 8", f/36, ISO200. Thanks for looking! It was the first unit to get the current W&LE colors, but the decorator misunderstood what Rio Grande speed lettering looked like. And according to this site, it got the current W&LE lettering in 2002: http://www.nsdash9.com/WEroster.html

Date: 12/06/16 19:07 Re: W&LE Late 90's Consist Author: NSDash9 The 4003 was the first unit to get the W&LE black and orange paint, albeit the poorly chosen lettering style seen here. It was painted following the rebuilding of the unit as an SD40-3, in May 1998. Photo taken at Brewster, Ohio, in May 1998, after it returned from painting. It wore that lettering until 2002, when the long hood lettering was changed to the D&RGW-inspired large Wheeling & Lake Erie style.

WLE2679, all three units in this consist were custom built from Athearn blue box units by two different people. The 2645/2650 came from SP GP35's and the 4003 from a UP SD40. I'm not sure who the custom builders were.
EDIT: Here's a roster of all three units. Matt Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/07/16 13:16 by Poker2662. |
