Photo request - WC 6652
Author: Nomad

Anyone happen to have  a photo showing the back door of Wisconsin Central's FP45 that they'd be willing to share?  I'd like to see how they fit their logo around the portal on the rear door.
Have found plenty of photos on this here internet thingy showing back doors of their F45's, which do not have a portal. Have also found a couple photos of 6652 while it was still in SF paint, showing that it did have a portal, but nothing showing the rear end after WC painted it.

Thanks!

Just googling around the internet... Plenty of front and side shots of the real WC 6652 out there, haven't spotted any illusive back end shots just yet. But I have found rear pics of various HO scale models of WC 6652.

1-2) Below, a couple angled rear shots of the HO scale Athearn Genesis model off an old ebay-clone auction/appraisal site. (images from terapeak.com)
3) And a rear shot of the earlier released HO scale Overland model, which appears to be missing the portal. (pic from BrassTrains.com)

Mr. MRL - still searching...

Searching deeper... Back in August 2009, TO member 'GP35' authored a photo thread that (about half way down the page) includes a more squared up rear end shot of the HO scale Athearn Genesis model...

The 6654 has the logo just below the rear headlights on the rear access door like MR. Mrl's pic, go to RR fallen flags and see the shot.

Thanks for looking.  Interesting the difference between the Genesis and OMI versions.  What OMI did looks right for any of the F45's.
6654 is one of the F45's that also still had portals on the side doors, and WC just painted the numbers right over the portal glass.  So I can't really be certain that they moved the shield on back down where Athearn put it, or whether they just slapped it right over the window.

Oh well, I guess in the absence of photos I get to do whatever I think looks best.

A print photo I have shows the 6652 to have the herald placed exactly as the Athearn Genesis model photo posted by MrMRL.  In fact the back end looks very close if not spot on.

As noted the rest of the F45s look more like the OMI model, but the herald is a tad lower.  6650, 6654, & 6656 had the number over the unpainted rear portal windows.  6651, 6653, & 6655 had the portal window painted over or replaced with steel.  Interestingly, a photo of the 6653 prior to being painted shows that the rear portal window on the conductors side still had glass.

Thank you!  I'll go with the Athearn version as a guide.

I have been looking at http://wc2scale.org/zenphoto/wc-motive-power/ a lot during this project.  Don't know who put it together, but for working on a WC project it's fantastic.  It was just missing that one angle of this one locomotive...

Thanks again.

Here is a photo I took of the rear of the WC 6652 when it was at BRC's Clearing Yard in Chicago, May 1997

Welp, there ya go. I figured someone out there would finally chime in with the definitive proof we crave. Gotta love Trainorders. Reasons like this are why I have no problem renewing my yearly membership year after year!

Not the 6652 but close.  Hope it helps.

Bingo!  Thank you.

I'm with MrMRL on this one...there's almost nothing railroad-related that the folks on this site can't answer.

One thing clear from the prototype photo: the Athearn model has the gold band incorrectly flaring out forward of the rear corner posts.
