Here are three recently loaded cars of lumber and poles
Author: Barstool

The 65 foot Northern Pacific gon has a pole load that still needs the strapping, but its a start, using dowells, the second shot is  a UP 40 ft. flat by exact rail that ius oaded to the hieht of a 40 foot box car.....The third shot is a intermountian flat that is being sold by the SP historical society.....the lumber is precut by Kappler Mill&Lumber in pakages....its a slow process, but each piece of lumber is laid in place, simlair to the old days when each car was hand loaded....No two car loads are alike that the different shippers sent out, depending on the size of the lumber.........bacvk in the steam days, it was not uncommon to see a open end 65 foot gon with a flat coupled to it as the loads hung way out over the flat like a idler car, the Northern Pacific car is loaded to the hilt....
