Sring has sprung, the grass has riz...
Author: stivmac

So, in in the spring, a young man's fancy turns to...
What projects have you got lined up, now that the weather is supposed to be decent? Are you a winter modeler because you are inside a nice warm basement, or are you like me, waiting for the garage to warm up enough and the rain to stop so you can get to some SERIOUS modeling? I plan on finishing the bridge over the Santa Clara River outside of Ventura and then the river bottom. Then work around to Seacliff and Fix the mudslide damage along the coast. Carpinteria is jsut about done, so I need to get to Ortega Hill, the Miramar Hotel and Santa Barbara. Want to lay track past Santa Barbara and fine tune the LA staging yard.

...I wonder where my workbench iz...

My fancy's turning to renovations...namely, getting the basement dry, temperate and comfy beneath the part of Chez Dubya that contains my work area. Then I can build the NEW work area, complete with shelving for models and magazines, my own sink, and a place to work on modules for prolonged periods unmolested.

How I love that woman.

Oh, and there's something about building a suite for Madame in the upper portion of said space. I guess Mrs. Nose wants her Mama to have more space. I'll worry about that after the workshop is Just So.

An episode of "In A Fix"* waiting to happen, I remain:
B-Dubya

*Or maybe an episode of "Boom!", depending on how it goes.

If these durn manufacturers would quit offering so much cool new motive power it'd be a lot easier to pull myself away from the workbench. ;-) Assuming I manage that someday soon (shooting for a start on the long upcoming weekend, actually), I plan to get mainline ties, ballast, and rail down from Rigg, through IAIS' Bluffs yard, and on over to UP's North yard, completing the mainline loop around the basement and back to staging. Then it's time to go back and start cutting in sidings in Bluffs yard, Hillis, and Atlantic so I can start basic operating sessions with through trains.

My modeling pace stays pretty static through the seasons. I'm slow 365 days a year.

I have a large scale tower to get done and deliverable, with the final lighting and the touchup painting being all I need to do by the end of this weekend. After that it is on back to working through the remotoring candidates to prioritize and set a budget to start the show. I would rather just dawdle and run trains but with the way work has been lately I might not be able to get that relaxed due to being on call so it is going to be workbench time before laid back time.

I sure do miss my old layout, the CSRR (Central Sierra RR), used to be able to burn up 25 hrs a day working on the old road or painting models. Since I moved in 2003 the new digs have eaten up just about every minute of spare time save for my occasional peeks at TO. I'll be making major headway this summer/fall wrapping up the prep work so that I can build the new train room to house my dream road, SP's Shasta Division- Roseville to Black Butte with a diversion into McCloud. Until then I'll be content working with my son on his layout.

Pics show a portion of my former layout months before "D" Day. Too bad I never 'finished' it. I used to have a CSRR website, but when we moved we changed ISP's and I took it down. Maybe I'll get around to putting the website back up that shows the whole CSRR story in the TO members area.

Thinking about the "good 'ol days",

Out here on the flats .....

The thunder has thud, and the tornado has torn.

The wind has whipped, and then the sun shone.

Too nice now to model indoors.

Actually have been in the nice warm basement this winter working on the Santa Fe. Now that spring beckons, my fancy is turning to the backyard and the Garden & Santa Fe G scale. Nice new covered hoppers and tanks await new Kadee body mounted couplers, track work needs a little alignment and ballast here and there, the HO will probably not see so much activity for the next few months.

Speak for yourself, in regards to the arrival of spring. I woke up this morning and there was snow on the car. It continued to snow/sleit for the rest of the day here in NW Ohio. Boo. Jeff
