Passenger Trains > Are the Parlours gone?Date: 01/10/06 15:42 Are the Parlours gone? Author: SunsetLtd Anyone know whats up its been a few days since any have been on #14 past the Dunsmuir cam, and they don't even have a substitute. I know they were going to send them to Beech grove but not all at once!
Date: 01/10/06 16:44 Re: Are the Parlours gone? Author: SCasey I've also been keeping an eye on the Dunsmuir cam. 5 Days w/o a Parlour Car and counting. Someone said that there was a newly painted Phase IVb Parlour car in Los Angeles, but that hasn't been seen yet.
Sean Date: 01/10/06 17:33 Re: Are the Parlours gone? Author: GenePoon As of today, Amtrak says 14(8), 14(9) and 11(9) are without the Pacific Parlour car...and with no Lounge substitute, either. 11(8) was without a Parlour but did have a Lounge.
"No Parlours" would be the first time this has happened in more than ten years. Three Parlours are Bad Order in Los Angeles. 39972 is shown as having moved to SEA for repairs, arriving on 03JAN06. STATE OF GOOD REPAIR Date: 01/11/06 06:52 Re: Are the Parlours gone? Author: GBNorman I would not be placing bets on the Parlours return to service. They have got to be the most visible target Amtrak has for the 'reformers'.
Remember folks, attracting passengers to the LD rail travel mode is not too high on the reformers priority list. It would appear that they are 'Puritanical' as to them there is not to be enjoyment derived from any means of moving the human body from point A to B. I guess there are airfan websites out there, but I doubt if when the general public makes the comment "nice flight', that means nothing beyond the flight operated acceptably on schedule, there were no reservation or ticketing difficulties, pre-boarding formalities were efficient, and that there were no apparent lapses regarding airmanship. Date: 01/11/06 07:55 Re: Are the Parlours gone? Author: floridajoe2001 I agree, GBNorman. Amtrak's horrible Board has probably begun tacking popular trains with "mysterious" service downgrades like this. It won't be with some big, official, anouncement. "Death by a thousand cuts", you might say.
Date: 01/11/06 10:21 Re: Are the Parlours gone? Author: wesroberts For the record, 14(10) came through Oakland about 3 hours late and without a parlour car.
Date: 01/11/06 11:08 Re: Are the Parlours gone? Author: aheld FWIW, #11 had a deadheading Parlour car tacked onto the rear last Saturday.
-a Date: 01/11/06 11:28 Re: Are the Parlours gone? Author: ProAmtrak I'm with Norman and Floridajoe on this, because if anyone aint noticing now, it'll might be too late to change anything!
Date: 01/13/06 00:09 Re: Are the Parlours gone? Author: amsnoop Parlour 39970 is Bad Order in L.A. waiting for a bearing for blowers. 39973 broke a pipe at Klamath Falls and was set out, then vandalized while no one looked, and then sent back to L.A. where it is now. 39972 in Seattle for wheel repair. Understand 39974 at Beach Grove.
Amsnoop Date: 01/13/06 10:22 Re: Are the Parlours gone? Author: px320 Today's #14 departing Los Angeles at 10:25 AM has Parlour, Diner and Sightseer Lounge.
