Passenger Trains > Restaurant(s) near L.A. Union Station ?Date: 12/26/08 14:03 Restaurant(s) near L.A. Union Station ? Author: wjamief My Dad and I are going to ride the Surfliner to/from LA Union Station tomorrow. Traxx (restaurant in Union Station) is closed for lunch on Saturday. So, I'm looking for restaurant recommendation within short walk of LA Union Station. TIA!

You should check the menu at Phillipe's first to make sure you and your dad like it: http://www.philippes.com/ Keep in mind it is an old place (a landmark, of sorts), loud, crowded, and sawdust on the floor. Just so you know what you're getting yourself into. But it's a pretty cool place to go, with lots of nostalgia and history. Here is the scoop on Olvera Street: http://www.olvera-street.com/html/merchant_directory.html Both Phillippes and Olvera Street are across the street from Union Station. If you have a second meal, take the Red Line or Purple Line two stops to Pershing Square for Clifton's Cafeteria at 648 South Broadway. Since the Great Depression Clifton's has fed all guests, even those who could not afford to pay. http://www.cliftonscafeteria.com/home.html Date: 12/26/08 17:14 Re: Restaurant(s) near L.A. TCS - or take the gol'd line to pasadoony Date: 12/26/08 17:48 Re: Restaurant(s) near L.A. Union Station ? Author: cchan006 goneon66 Wrote:

Also try Spring St. BBQ just around the corner, closer to Union Station. Date: 12/26/08 18:09 Re: Restaurant(s) near L.A. Union Station ? Author: derf If you like good Bar-B-Que, try Spring Street Smokehouse on the N. E. corner of N. Spring St. and Caesar Chavez. It is a little closer to Union Station than Phillipe's and is not as crowded.

And recently, arriving in the back from the LAX shuttle, I was really desparate, so I actually went and ate there. Forgive me! Date: 12/27/08 06:08 Re: Restaurant(s) near L.A. Union Station ? Author: dzeph Cliftons is still in business? I ate there my first visit to LA in 1948 and I thought it was fabulous!

Date: 12/27/08 10:37 Re: Restaurant(s) near L.A. Union Station ? Author: brassjournal My pick on Olvera Street would be La Luz del Dia on the south end of the street.
Hand made tortillas! Date: 12/27/08 11:39 Re: Restaurant(s) near L.A. Union Station ? Author: wwdrkid All this time I took the Red LIne up to 7th Street and walked several blocks to the nearest Dennys for a high class meal. No sawdust on the floor. So there is a Dennys right behind the depot?
NOW ya tell me. Date: 12/27/08 12:45 Re: Restaurant(s) near L.A. Union Station ? Author: vegasrails WATCH
Is the deli still in Pershing Square too? my first visit to Clifton's was in 55, street cars still ruled the area or so memory seems. In college I used to study in Pershing Square and eat at a daily near by top of the line sandwiches. Date: 12/27/08 19:38 Re: Restaurant(s) near L.A. Union Station ?
