Short video of the Special 3-car ex-Zephyr train from Oakland to Portola. Departed Oakland, CA at approx. 7:50 AM, via Niles Canyon, and Altamont Pass. At about 8:50 AM with a bright, sunny day at Hearst, I had to shoot going away to avoid the sun. Anyway, it's a pretty extraordinary train, and I hope you enjoy this little clip.

Perhaps others will post more video at other locations.

How many CZ cars are still in existence, both operable and non-operable?

It's too bad that the WP 805A wasn't pulling it.

Is there any ex-CZ baggage cars around?

I think there is one on the Algoma Central and one at the Gold Coast RR Museum in Miami.

So what does it take to get a ride on one of these trips? That may appear to be a naive question for some, but I would really like to know.

If memory serves me, it took about 800 bucks.

77 total cars:

51 known to still exist in various conditions.

9 Known Scrapped

17 unaccounted for, most of which have probably been scrapped.

The best place would probably be to keep an eye on these websites:

Could this be the same Zephyr that I used to see every day passing by the back of a foundry in Plano, IL that I worked in during the summer of 1952?
