Author: Gene_CA Am considering using the late train or bus connection from Solana Beach and the FlyAway bus to get to LAX for an early morning flight. Could be arriving in LA at either 11:00 PM or around 1:00 AM to transfer to the airport bus. Is the station well secured at those hours? Is the bus plaza close to the station and is it well patroled? Thanks for the information. Just a bit uneasy doing anything in LA late at night.

Around the station are many security guards, LAPD, and Amtrak Police. Even if you go across the street to Olvera street it is pretty safe. However, if you decided to go on a walk past Union Station, I would deffinetly not reccomend it.
The bus plaza is right there in the station, I came in on a bus from Santa Barbara (Coast Starlight connection) at 4am and it was fine. A. It will be quiet but is still heavily patrolled. The Patasaurous Transit Plaza where you will catch the flyaway bus to the airport is on the opposite end of the tunnel from the main Union Station waiting room.
