This morning's NJ Transit derailment
Author: tmurray

From the Newark Star Ledger

Trains on NJ Transit's Main and Bergen County lines will operate on a modified schedule because of a derailment in Ridgewood this morning, the transit agency announced.

Trains heading toward Hoboken will leave Suffern at 11 minutes after the hour and make all stops to the Glen Rock Main Line Station. Passengers then will be taken by bus to the Glen Rock Boro Hall Station, where they will be able to connect with trains on the Bergen County Line. Delays of about 15 minutes are expected, NJ Transit says.

Trains coming the other way will leave Hoboken at their scheduled times and make all stops to the Glen Rock Boro Hall Station. Passengers who leave from stations between Rutherford and Glen Rock will be transported by bus between Glen Rock and Suffern. Passengers leaving from the stations in Hoboken or Secaucus can minimize their delays by using Main Line trains rather than Bergen County Line trains, NJ Transit says. Those Main Line Trains will leave Hoboken at their scheduled times but will probably experience delays of between 10 and 15 minutes.

The service disruption was caused by a 7:25 a.m. derailment in Ridgewood, right at the spot where the Main and Bergen County lines converge. No passengers or crew members were injured.

NJ Transit expects to have the necessary repairs completed by 5 p.m.

Media reports from the area say that NJT suspended three track maintenance workers and instituted more inspections on account of today's derailment, which was apparently caused by an improperly installed switch at Ridgewood Junction
