Amtrak/South Shore Indiana Detours

Due to the UPS Train that wrecked on the NS main at Burns Harbor, IN Amtrak's Michigan Trains detoured on the South Shore from Kensington, IL to Michigan City, IN.

Nice that some trains were able to detour! If the Three Rivers was still in operation it may have been able to take some burden off of the Capitol Limited and Lake Shore. Lot of people missed connections in Washington DC today!

I read about the detour and drove a few miles to the Hammond South Shore station at about 145 PM this afternoo. Nothing came by -- I must have missed no. 352. I didn't have time to wait around. Would have been nice to see Amtrak on the CSSSB tracks. Thanks for the photos.

BTW, 90200 was the very first F40 ever built.

This Amtrak was eastbound..following South Shore train #109. I was working 109..until we passed Amtrak at Kensington I had no idea they were detouring on our line.

Is it all ran by train orders still out on the west end of line? or is it now ctc for a ways? I know the east end still uses orders.

CTC extends to Wilson Siding, most trains are picking up train orders at Ogden Dunes station now. Plans are to active CTC to Michigan City shortly.

Correct. Between CUS & Kensington, they're following the same route as the Illini, Saluki, and the City of N.O....

Another thread reported that 353 turned for 352 at Michigan City.
