Passenger Trains > Amtrak #5 (1/6) What's Up?

Amtrak #5 is apparently scheduled into DEN at 2:30 PM this afternoon vs its regular scheduled stop of 715-805 this morning. 7+ hours late. Woke up at 710 and just did the check. Must have been that good sized storm that rolled through town yesterday.

It shows that the crew is DOL on number 6 and just about DOL on number 5.
Im stuck in Creston, Ia and suppose to deadhead home on Amtrak 6. But have not heard any other updates.

Hard to say since 5 is showing overdue since leaving its last stop at 0135 local.

Looks like today's train #5 (07) has been annulled out of Chicago this afternoon. Also looks like 6 (06) will be annulled at Denver tonight.

They have a Zephyr set in Chicago that would have been 6 (04).

See both #5 and 6 are dead at Fairmont, Nebraska. A pleasant -26 degree wind chill with steady NW winds at 30mph. . . .

I'll bet by now the diners are out of stock and the passengers and crew are getting surly. As much as I love the train, this is why I pack water, granola bars, jerky, and other calorie dense stuff when I travel. That way I can eat and, if I have enough, open a cottage industry.

Looks like 6 is moving again, but 5 is still sitting.

5 and 6 both started moving about the same time. #6 has arrived Lincoln, Nebraska

Had an email message from the wife of a Denver agent this evening (I have known the couple several years), in which she happened to mention to me that #5 is not expected into Denver until around 10 pm.

Just gave an agent a call on the phone. Took pretty long for her to track it down, but she finally found it for me. Amtrak #5 originating in DEN tomorrow, scheduled ontime departure (I should only hope).

In other news, Amtrak #5 that was supposed to arrive into DEN at 700 this morning is currently running 15 h & 42 minutes late. From the map the train is "overdue." Why don't they just spend the night in Denver and keep it running as #5 for tomorrow's train? Just me here; feel bad for the folks whose #6 had to be anulled in DEN for tomorrow's #5.

Lets just say between equipment problems and now BnSF power derailing, it is a nightmare. #8 is not much better. Stuck in Minot with freeze issues and air loss problems on every car and no hotel or bus....argh.

Excuse me if I am redundant, Amtrak has suspended service Chicago-Denver.
