CZ to Serve Kansas City Tonight
Author: PumpkinHogger

5 is supposedly lined up to detour today via KCY due to high water/flooding in Iowa on BNSF. Apparently UP East/West main unavailable. Stay tuned. No word on #6 tomorrow.

I was in Union Station this afternoon, and it was posted that the train was going to detour and alternate transportation would be available.

Out of Galesburg 41 minutes late.

Probably picked up a ATS leader for a 90 MPH trip across Missouri on the Santa Fe.

Middle of the night through KC.

Julie says 4 hours late into Lincoln.

Anyone know the speed limit for passenger trains on the St. Joe/Napier Subs?

I've been curious how suitable KC to Lincoln on the BNSF would be for passenger trains. Maybe I will find out shortly. Any information is welcomed.

The route is a major important coal line for BNSF, so CTC is everywhere. I assume they will skip Omaha?

It left La Plata at 7:45 PM after doing a station stop there.

I did the Milwaukee Road 261 over that route. It is the main BNSF coal line so there is plenty of coal trains to meet. We waited for 4 before we ran to Lincoln. It was a fun daylight ride. A link to my story.

They stopped at La Plata to do an Amtrak crew change of engineers and van the inbound to Boone, IA for the detour tomorrow. We went regular route on #6 (09) and were one of the last trains thru before they shut the line down. Inbound engineer told me he was walked thru water at the IC&E interlocking.

Amtrak does not keep locomotives in Galesburg, so #5 did not pick up any extra motors there. They just establish absolute block on those detours when we go via KC and run 79 mph across that subdivision.
