The indents closer to the center of the vaulted ceiling have sound absorbing tiles in them. The indirect lighting also adds to the functionality, and the stations relatively easy to keep clean.
I still think it is amazing that the DC Metro was built at all. Two states and the District had to agree to fund and build it, and the two states hardly had any mileage when it first opened. Today it seems you can't get consensus on anything within one state let alone among three jurisdictions! It mostly goes where people are or want to be and skips areas where they don't, Georgetown being the exception. Not bad for such an undertaking! If you want an interesting experience, try taking Metro to The Mall area on July 4th for the fireworks. Date: 04/04/11 23:21 Re: Nor'eastour: Washington DC Metro Author: Top_bullfrog bobs Wrote:

The 4th draws quite a crowd, but for an even more wild experience, try taking it for an inaugeration. The 4th last year was downright roomy compared to the morning of Obama's Inaugeration. How were the escalators the day you were there?? TL Date: 04/05/11 12:40 Re: Nor'eastour: Washington DC Metro Author: joemvcnj And none of their rent-a-cops harassed you about photos (never mind they are not supposed to except at Pentagon) ?

They are sworn officers and NOT "rent a cops"

Which was the "other" city that gave you some grief? /Mitch Date: 04/05/11 17:05 Re: Nor'eastour: Washington DC Metro Author: Lackawanna484 bklJ611 Wrote:

Wow... good to know about Baltimore. I've yet to be detained longer then a friendly conversation or short to the point, "leave now". I can see how Baltimore would be a more important target then DC... lol. /Mitch Date: 04/14/11 12:13 Re: Nor'eastour: Washington DC Metro Author: wilewil If you look closely at the "astronaut"'s visor, you will see that he (she) is a dog.
