Passenger Trains > Chasing the PRS Special from LAUPT to BakersfieldDate: 04/05/11 20:04 Chasing the PRS Special from LAUPT to Bakersfield Author: cchan006 BNSF7400 Ryan sent me a heads up for the PRS Special, which helped me decide what to do last weekend. I chased the train and the "Pointless Arrow" AMTK #156 for almost the entire length of the trip, from Mission Tower near Los Angeles Union Station to Bakersfield. 3 videos:
- Mission Tower, Ontario, Lytle Creek Bridge, and Hill 582. - Cameron, Walong, Bealville, Caliente Creek near Ilmon, and Kern Jct. - Pacing along Edison Highway. Enjoy. Chatted with Drew at Kern Jct. after the PRS Special left, and heard some great stories. We both agreed that you are one of the few crazy people on this planet who'd go up to Andover to meet the rotaries. In fact, just before I started the camcoder rolling on the following video at Tunnel 2 for Sunday's south(east)bound trip, I overheard your name mentioned again, while the railfans below were conversing about UP management's handling of Donner Snow and how you got the shot of the rotaries. Anyway, the video is typical Tehachapi, Tunnel 2 and doing The Loop at Walong. You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. Join Today! And loved the pacing sequence . . . very steady . . . the old Edison Hwy must still have good pavement!
A quick question . . . do others who post video clips find they become a little washed out when uploaded . . . I've noticed that with my recent uploads (although my current VOTD was shot into the sun, so that is understandable) . . . think I may have to do the equivalent of 'photoshopping stills' by doing some colour (Cdn spelling) correction in post. Love those shots. I was railfanning with my best buddy and another friend at the Loop. The last visit was on Halloween Day, 2001.

You probably want to upload the video at a high quality setting so it compresses nicer. Our system recompresses the videos for web serving and that means you want to give it the best quality video to work with. With compression, color is lost. I have the option of cranking up the color universally for everything uploaded, but I am not sure how the results will look. It might just make them look horrible. Thanks Todd . . . appreciate the input . . .with uploading HD with higher settings to retain the colour, I guess the compromise is longer download times for the board members. . . . The Pony Express was built by Canadian Car & Foundry for the CP in 1941 as CPR Baggage-Express-Horse car 4210. Mark Dees bought the car from Anbel, Brownsville, TX in 1987. I bought the car from the Dees estate in 1997. Date: 04/07/11 21:49 Re: Chasing the PRS Special from LAUPT to Bakersfield Author: Gene_CA Absolutely outstanding video. However; I am not familiar with PRS acronym. What was it and how did I miss it.
