RRT Pax Train in AZ
Author: mococomike

I caught the Railroad Revival Tour Train at Picacho Jct. and chased it to Coolidge AZ on the Phoenix Sub. The tour website had live gps tracking with made it easy to find this train. They almost made it on time and was about off its published schedule. At Picacho Jct. the train received a UP pilot crew to take it into Phoenix. Instead of going around the wye the power switched ends and pulled the train backwards up the Phoenix Sub. This allowed the train to pointed in the right direction after the concert to head to TX. Once in Phoenix the power ran around the train and was back on the correct end ready to go. This is 1st Amtrak train on the Phoenix sub. in years.

1. The new double track is approaching right on the other side the bridge.

Maybe you can tell us what you mean by "entering back into the U.S.". Coolidge is quite a distance from an International border.

That was original US border with Mexico before the Gadsden purchase. Everything south of the Gila River to Yuma.

And the primary reason for the purchase was to permit the SP to build east from Yuma to El Paso and not have to dip into Mexico.
