Passenger Trains > WI Talgo Cab Car Preview: Too Ugly for wordsDate: 06/17/11 08:28 WI Talgo Cab Car Preview: Too Ugly for words Author: PumpkinHogger Final concept has been revealed. As horrible looking as was thought it would be.
Is there a rule somewhere that American articulated lightweight trains MUST be butt ugly? This makes GM's Aerotrain seem positively charming. It'll be the fugliest thing on rails. Just draw a face on it and you've got a kids show cartoon character. It isn't really Talgo's fault, it was designed by committee in accordance with FRA crash standard constraints. But come on ... the typical Spanish Talgo loco fotted in Barcelona last October by comparison looks fabulous. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/17/11 08:32 by PumpkinHogger. I suggest a redesign resembling an E-unit. Art Date: 06/17/11 08:34 Re: WI Talgo Cab Car Preview: Too Ugly for words Author: joemvcnj I thought that orange thing was a Coney Island Bumper car.

Maybe they have the cartoon series all figured out for a little extra cash. It looks like it was designed by Homer Simpson.

The photo shows a power car on one of RENFE's (Spanish Railways) Talgo high-speed trainsets. That design is, IMHO, still much better-looking than anything US-designed in the past bunch of decades.... Date: 06/17/11 09:36 Re: WI Talgo Cab Car Preview: Too Ugly for words Author: PumpkinHogger Modern (read advanced) designs - like the Talgo350 and latest Chinese and Japanese HSR sets that run at 220mph or better - have been found that the low shovel nose is the most aerodynamic solution to get the air out of the way.
Of course here in the greatest country in the world where we need only plow through the air at 79mph, a brick is considered streamlined. aehouse Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Agreed that the Wisconsin cab car is very ugly, > but that French thing looks like a Platypus. I also thought they were going to put an F40 cab car on one end like the Cascades, and although I hate the de-power the F40 concept at least the Cascade F40 cab cars look decent, and far better than this joke!

Just before I scrolled down to your post, photobob, I was thinking this thing looks like something out of a kiddie cartoon. You put the perfect touch on it.
