Passenger Trains > #6 into Chicago today

#6 arrived into Chicago today 22 minutes EARLY, been along time sinse this has happened. Just goes to show you things are getting better. GO AMTRAK. Proud of you for the great performance today.

Pads are a wonderful thing. I watch with amazement as No. 5 routinely arrives in Denver 3 hrs late and ends up in Emeryville on time or even a few minutes early!

It now takes 50:10 for #5, 53:50 for #6 end-to-end (11/7/11 timetable times, 52:10 and 51:30 real time if I did the math right, a very dubious possibility!). I don't know when or what the CZ's fastest schedules were, but in 1960 these times were 47:40 and 51:00 (49:40 and 49:00) respectively.

and the 60's CZ went south out of oakland via the altamont and stockton prior to reaching sacramento then north before starting east at binney jct.
