Passenger Trains > Amtrak Horizon cars

What were the numbers of the Horizon cars delivered to Amtrak in 1988-1989?

I think they were as follows, but how many of each were delivered?

Lounges, 53000 series
Food Service, 53500 series
Coaches, 54000 series

I'm looking to fill in the basic information on this web page.

Had to dig, but found some notes I took in 1995:

8 - 53000 - 53007 19 seat/8 tables Custom Class/lounge-cafe
10 - 53500 - 53509 lounge-cafe, all tables (12) with one handicap seat next to accessible restroom
1 - 54000 84 seat coach
44 - 54001 - 54043 82 seat coach
26 - 54044 - 54071* 78 seat coach with baggage rack
14 - 54500 - 54513 72 seat coach with baggage rack and one handicap seat next to accessible restroom

*Of the original 104 cars when this summary was done, only 54045 was retired account of the San Joaquin derailment in December 1989

The 54505 wound up at Camp Pendleton USMC and was used for training Marine's

Hey Don.

Not to get too far off track.

But the Auto Train Lounge #33100-33104 are Superliner Is not IIs
They was originally dining cars. But was rebuilt as Lounge Cars.

Those five cars were apparently rebuilt from 38000 series Diners, so really should not be in the list at all. The list is for the original numbers.

Thanks for that update.

The AEM-7 units certainly get a lot of work, much more than the newer HHP-8 motors.
