Passenger Trains > More of the Iowa Pacific Santa Cruz train

Given the on and off rain that accompanied the special train that ran between Watsonville and Santa Cruz, CA on the 17th (see http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,2920172 , http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,2919904 , and http://sccrtc.org/projects/rail/right-on-track/ ), I didn't get very thorough video coverage of the run (it's a tape camera and I worry about letting it get too wet). The attached video intersperses still photos and blather with video to try to make a more complete picture. This is the low-def version.

Thanks for your efforts. I only once got a chance to ride a train to Santa Cruz once , way back in 1963 (?). It was a special train and what a ride. Got to stand on the open platform at the rear and speeding along south of San Jose was great. Nothing like jointed rail at 79! Maybe some of the other geezers on this board have photos of that trip? What does the future hold for this line? I sure hope things work out for a resumption of some freight as well as passenger in some form. Hats off to Iowa Pacific for putting together such a classy train.

GREAT video Evan!! Yep, Elrond was there and best of all, his daughter Kat is in the cast for the Christmastown train runs. She apparently was an elf in yesterday's event. Hope he posts some pics of her!

Thanks folks! Just noticed I made a goof in the script - the excursions were a five mile roundtrip WEST of Santa Cruz, not east.

Going back to the SP days, a train going from Santa Cruz to Davenport was an eastbound move, so in a historical SP sorta context you were correct, even if not so much geographically...

I wish AMTRAK CALIFORNIA had those type of horns.
