Passenger Trains > #6/12??Date: 12/13/12 21:20 #6/12?? Author: lowwater Hasn't been on the status maps all day, and I just heard bits and pieces of a conversation suggesting that it might be in western Colorado now, way late.
????? Date: 12/14/12 02:59 Re: #6/12?? Author: The_Chief_Way 6(12) and 5(11) fell into that famous "service disruption" hole because they were detoured....without
missing any passenger stops ! apparently both ran SLC to Elko via Ogden acct a UP train stalled in a tunnel and rescue power was hours away 6 lost over 3 hrs on the detour 5 waited for pilots at SLC but only lost about an hour on the detour Date: 12/14/12 06:18 Re: #6/12?? Author: 2ebright Anybody have any more details on this? The only tunnel that really fits the bill for this stall is Hogan Tunnel west of Silver Zone Pass in eastern Nevada. Were any other UP or BNSF trains affected? Did the relief power come out of Salt Lake City, about 200 miles east, or Elko which is closer but to the west. What train stalled? There are some heavy grain, coal and ore trains on this, the Shafter sub.

That would be about $104 million is today's bucks. I guess it was good for the robber barons that they didn't have to worry too much about the run-of-the-mill stockholders in those days. Oh, wait a minute............ Date: 12/14/12 20:26 Re: #6/12?? Author: lowwater The_Chief_Way Wrote:

Anyway, thanks much for the explanation. Bruce |
