Overkill but probably necessary
Author: Ptolemy

Evidently #49 will be leaving NYP five minutes earlier in April, when I will be on it. So far, in the last 24 hours, I have received two phone calls and two e-mails about this change. I suppose one can't be too careful, but it seems a waste of Amtrak's scant resources.

Hard to believe anyone wouldn't be at the station 5 minutes prior anyway.

E-mails and phone messages take very little in the way of resources. They're a cheap way of avoiding customer complaints.

Yes, it hard to believe...but it does happen.

Back in the pre-VIA days, I remember running down the platform here in Ottawa trying to catch my moving train. As the trainman was closing the dutch door on the coach, he noticed me waving, and radioed for the train to halt. My friend who was already on board though that he was going to Toronto alone and was quite surprised when a puffing, hot, sweaty me sat down beside him!
