Passenger Trains > Amtrak 6

I was just told the Amtrak 6 now in Nebraska hit an abandoned horse trailer near Kenesaw Ne and is in the process of having a freight motor added. Eta into Lincoln 10:00 at best.

Sounds like a complete loss of horsepower...

Now this train is stopped in western Iowa.

Engine crew went dead at 14:45. Was supposed to have crew coming from the east to get it to Ottumwa. Must not be there yet.
I was at 70th street in Lincoln when it went through. The gates were malfunctioning and had been down for atleast twenty minutes when a parking enforcement cop showed up and started letting traffic under and around the gates. I told her that Amtrak had left Lincoln station 8 minutes ago and it would be there at any time at 65 mph plus so if she could see the headlights she had better hold up traffic. She let it go longer than I would have. 6 was blowing the horn and I thought I was going to see it hit another vehicle but it made it ok.

Did anyone call the 800 number that is supposed to be posted on the crossing box? A malfunctioning gate would seem to be a reason for the train to go slow if not stopped to flag the crossing.

What's a payphone? (LOL, my spell-checker doesn't even know the word!)

Nebraska? Payphone? Maybe find a slate and chisel ;)

Matt, First I called the police because their were people going around the gates in all kinds of creative ways. They assured me that it had been reported to BNSF and they were on their way. But after Amtrak went thru a waiting west bound called the dispatcher to report what they had witnessed and the dispatch didn't know anything about it. Some one was not telling the truth.

There are still a few pay phones left but only the number the public service commission requires the local phone company to keep. For a while there were seven lined up in a parking lot to help meet the requirement but that got changed.

Lucky stiff, you probably get to ride a train everyday. Seen you go by my lumbering, late
LDT one time approaching Big City, everybody wearing a nice shiny suit, carrying a non-animal
(Naugahyde?) brief case, talking to yourself, sipping on a Starbuck's.

Bet you've got more than one pair of shoes. Wow, that's living high on the hog!
