Start Date for SunRail?
Author: march_hare

I'm seeing a lot of Bombardier sausage cars coming by the office window, lettered for SunRail, headed from Plattsburgh down south for delivery.

Anybody know when this operation is supposed to start up?

Wintering in Florida this past season was able to attend two of the Sunrail Station event. The First was the opening of the new Winter Park Station and the second the southern most station Sand Lake Road.

Are these trains to run on the FEC or the CSX? What are the end points? Thanks.

These will run on SunRail tracks (former CSX nee Atlantic Coast Line bought by the State of Florida). When finished it will run from a southern terminus in Poinciana to a northern terminus in Deland. For the start it runs from Sand Lake Road (south) to DeBary (north). It will share train stations in Orlando and Winter Park with AMTRAK to begin, and eventually with Deland and Kissimmee.

Not a bad initial schedule. The bluehairs down in Winter Park all of a sudden are upset about trains disturbing their bridge matches, but voters approved this project and it has been under construction for some three years. All of a sudden the NIMBY's are fussing!

Anyway, the schedule can be found at this link:

What's the physical layout for the service in terms of trackage? How much double, how much single with sidings?

According to various sources, reconstruction of the line meant double-tracking 32 miles with new 115 pound CWR. With the exception of the St Johns River bridge in Sanford, the rest is reputed to be double track.
