"The press conference was called after Blumenthal slammed Metro-North Railroad for collecting $552,000 in fines over the past decade for safety violations and defects." Priceless... Unreal....geez..You would think someone on the platform would have said "Hey train coming, stand behind yellow line". Obviously there were no foamers on the platform... Or a new law requiring all trains to pass all platforms at not more than 10 mph. Don't underestimate these guys. They'd exempt themselves from the law of gravity if they could. (They exempted themselves from Obamacare, federal harassment rules, etc. Both parties helped in that.) I shudder to think of what the political fallout would have been. The howls and screams from the media interview platform in the Capitol rotunda, from the talking heads in the media and from the punditocracy would have been unreal. And I doubt that very little of it would have focused on the senator's totally inept (and that's being kind) behavior. Always someone else or some other entity to blame. > > > Or a new law requiring all trains to pass all > platforms at not more than 10 mph. Don't > underestimate these guys. Truer words never written or spoken. I can hear the sighs of relief all the way here in the Midwest from the HQ of Amtrak, various commuter rail authorities and the AAR. The engineer has to be one of the most relieved of all, thank God and his guardian angels. The sheer arrogance of the political class these days is breathtaking, and they would have exploited this ad nauseam. Have The Chuckster of New York, or my own state's Claire Much Beloved of Morning Joe, both personfications of "I've found an issue to exploit to the max!", been heard from yet? (No wait -- let's not give them the idea). When is this guy up for re-election? Connecticut, if you have even the slightest degree of common sense, you know what to do. Were he a railfan, he'd be in jail... Date: 04/19/14 11:36 Re: NY Sen Blumenthal has a close call with a Train at Author: andersonb109 Could have been one less needed to take back the Senate! It looks however like the easel would have gotten the worst of it.
Date: 04/19/14 12:13 Re: NY Sen Blumenthal has a close call with a Train at Author: MERR Blumenthal is a Senator from CT, not NY. He is one that loves to put his foot into lots of things. I hope he has now learned his lesson. Odd how the Hartford paper did not mention the near miss, but did Headline his comments.

He doesn't walk on water, he glides a few inches above it...
