Jim Date: 04/23/14 15:18 Re: assistance for train 42 Pennsylvanian Wednesday Author: myjbh1989 Only 42 minutes late? They must have been close to the rescue engine? Over here a dead locomotive means hours and annullments

Yes, some Amtrak trains run on time but are not generally of interest on Trainorders. Date: 04/23/14 15:41 Re: assistance for train 42 Pennsylvanian Wednesday Author: chuchubob Chooch Wrote:

Over here a dead locomotive > means hours and annullments a story to go along with your statement about rescue engines ... i believe it was in the mid 90s if i'm not mistaken a wb Amtrak had broken down just west of Grundy interlocking in Bristol,Pa ... the location is about 1/2 hr east of 30th St Station where the protect engine is kept for logistical reasons ... well the protect crew got the call and the on duty TM wanted to ride along with the protect crew to "ASSIST" <<< remember that word and expedite the procedure ... the crew ran east to Holmes interlocking on signal indication ... when they got to Holmes they received a form D to run manual block from Holmes to the whole MP ( to cover their running rights on that track ) east of the train with the train sitting just west of the whole MP and also given the exact MP location where the disabled train was sitting ... ya stayin with me here ... well coming east as the protect engine was traveling in that direction there's a sweeping left hand curve through Bristol and the disabled train was at the very far east end of the curve which the protect crew couldn't see the train until they're right on top of it ... i believe you all know where i'm going with this by now ... well as the protect crew rounds the curve at a speed above the restricting speed they should've been going ( TM influence maybe )all of a sudden there's the disabled train and they cant stop in time ... needless to say it was a bit more more than a smooth hitch to say the least ... now instead of just a late train getting rescued ... there's emergency personnel now showing up on the scene due some reported passenger injuries ... needless to say the protect crew along with the TM were yanked ... mechanical personnel had to be called to inspect the equipment to make sure there wasn't any damage sufficient enough to warrant another rescue unit ... the passengers had to be transferred to another train ... yeah things were quite a mess on that beautiful sunny day Date: 04/23/14 16:14 Re: assistance for train 42 Pennsylvanian Wednesday Author: penncentral74 >>Yes, some Amtrak trains run on time but are not generally of interest on Trainorders.

They never do run on time, for better or (usually) for worse. ;-) Tor in Eugene Date: 04/23/14 19:23 Re: assistance for train 42 Pennsylvanian Wednesday Author: RuleG This morning, I saw 42 with an NS freight engine on the front prior to its departure from Pittsburgh.
Date: 04/23/14 20:19 Re: assistance for train 42 Pennsylvanian Wednesday Author: onblock Indeed, 42 was led by an NS dash 9W on the Pittsburgh Line, replaced in Harrisburg by the protect engine.
