Private cars on the move...
Author: aronco

Surfliner train 572 from LAUPT Saturday, April 26th, ( it will always be LAUPT to me ) oh all right, LAUS, will have private car TIOGA PASS on rear destined San Diego. If you are in San Diego on Saturday, you may wish to see the new platform railings, and the new interior décor. I should be able to show the car while the charter group is off doing their thing say between 2pm and 4pm.

If you had a car like that, wouldn't you?

Doesn't Amtrak require a car owner to be on-board their car for all trips where the car is occupied?

Huh?? Car doesn't even have to be occupied at all, but most moves have a representative of the owner on-board for the protection of the car.

No Norman, you were right the first time. To those of us "old heads" it will ALWAYS BE "LAUPT"!

Yes, that's why I said "where the car is occupied", because I know that deadhead moves are made with nobody in the car at all. My question had to do with when the car is OCCUPIED. It was my understanding that Amtrak wanted an OCCUPIED car with passengers to have the owner or at least the owner's representative who knows a little something about how to make quick mechanical fixes, etc.

Some of the best trips are the deadhead trips - such as returning from Montreal to Los Angeles with just a few friends aboard. Those trips are tough but I am proud to do my civic duty! The railings are higher for my digestion - I don't worry now about any accidents on the platform.

Indeed. Certainly enjoyed that trip, though I could have done without my experience at Penn Station (Beer run gone bad [almost!]). Looking forward to seeing you next month in Mississippi.
