Don't know for sure but I thought SP rails to NO became BNSF track at merger time.

Thanks so much for your trip reports, I have been following them closely.

You were on BNSF between just west of the Huey P Long bridge and a point near the Louisiana-Texas border. As a result of the UP/SP merger, BNSF received the former SP across Louisiana, UP had the former MOP route. BNSF has trackage rights on UP between the border and Houston.

BNSF owns the ex SP from Iowa Jct just east of Lake Charles to Avondale. UP retained trackage rights and BNSF has rights to Houston were they regain home rails.

Another beautiful set of photos, Chris! I could just feel the humidity looking at the pictures from Louisiana.

In Tucson, I believe you passed a portion of the Pima Air & Space Museum.

Last time I was in Tucson with a car, the adjoining air force base was a virtual storehouse of unneeded planes.

Wonderful reports. Thank you.

Nice report & great photos. I'm thinking of riding the Sunset Limited as recent legislation approved by the House of Representatives is threatening to eliminate this route.

Excellent report. Thank you. You should send it to some of the people who is trying to kill the train. :)

Too bad you couldn't have taken the Desert Wind back to Salt Lake. Great photos, it's been fun to follow your trip.

Great pictures. Interesting to see the new yard in New Mexico since we saw it under construction. Seems like there is always a lot of people boarding in both Tucson and Maricopa. Thanks again for sharing an interesting ride.

I rode from San Antonio to LA in November. You had more daylight and thanks to your pictures I can see some of what I passed in the dark. The new fuel facility is part of Santa Teresa yard in New Mexico. It just opened. When I passed through grading was done but no yard tracks then. It's huge and will avoid El Paso congestion.

Tucson was one busy stop on my trip. But nobody rides the Sunset. I haven't figured that one out yet. Great report; looking forward the the next edition.

Great report with a minor correction. New Orleans Union Terminal was opened in 1954...not the "80's.
