Wonderful trip posting of one of the greatest runs in the world.. enjoyed the photos of the track between Honda and Surf, Jalama, San Augustine, etc. Too bad the lead unit was not the AMTK 221

Mr. F40PHR231, do you have any advice for photographing from inside the train, like white balance, filters, etc? You have some amazing shots for shooting through tinted glass.

Thanks,

What was the car number that had the service area. Looks like it had been redone for Business Class.

Thanks for the photo story of the Coast. old hat for many of us, but to those that have not been able to ride, it must have been very useful.

For the record (in case anyone want's to know):

Pic #14 - Gaviota. I believe the pier is currently closed due to storm damage.

Pic #23 - Jalama Beach, south of Surf, between the sidings of Sudden and Conception.

Pic #29 and 30 - Approaching Casmalia, between the sidings of Narlon and Devon.

Pic #31 - Siding at Devon (Casmalia in the background, home of the world famous "Hitching Post" steak house).

Graniterock (stone and building materials) near Aromas, CA, east of Watsonville.

Look for Quarry Lake. The facility is between there and Aromas, off of Quarry Rd.

Well Hell Chris, I was about to get excited thinking you were coming back home to Portland,
being on the CS. I know , home is in Utah now (Oregon's loss) but hopefully you'll come back
for a visit and a chance to get some photography done in the gorge and around the north end
of the valley. Maybe a nice day over in Tillamook county to spend a little time on the OCSR!

Anyhow, keep up the superb shutter work and try to get up on the UP between Montpelier
and Granger,,,,,some great locations to get pics over there.

That's a lot of hopper cars there. Does anyone know the reporting marks for these cars and what type of hoppers they are?

Once again, a fantastic photo documentary. Outstanding photos.

I must say your series is probably the best photo documentary of an Amtrak trip that I have seen here on TO. I will echo the comments about the quality of photos from inside, as well as outside, the train

Car #31046, with full racks in the baggage room downstairs (something I hadn't seen for a loooong time).
