Amtrak/NJT at Princeton Junction, NJ Yesterday

Some high speed NEC action at Princeton Junction, no ACS-64s in 3 1/2 hrs of railfanning. Guess they all ran in the afternoon, thanks for stopping by!

Very interesting. How did you avoid arrest by staying there for such a long time?

I just went down to the end of the platform and minded my own business. The NJT Police smiled and nodded at me when I walked past with my camera and tripod. Guess I just got lucky with some people who actually like their job.

NJ Transit police generally tend to be pretty good with people who aren't doing dumb things. With a really long platform like PJC, they're not going to be in your face if you're out of the way.

In my years of dealing with NJTPD, I may have run into two jerks. And, lots of friendly helpful people.

You pretty well captured the feel of NEC. A shame you weren't able to get a few LD trains in the mix. They add a little variety. Nice editing work. Keeping the camera in one place it gives the feel of non-stop trains....which it can almost be at times.

Nice set of shots! Why is the track nearest your location out of service.

Do any Amtk trains stop at Princeton Jct? Surprised you didn't record any NJT station stops at the temporary boarding areas...

Major track 1 rebuilding.

Tominde: Thank you. That is what I was going for. This probably has to be my best video from the Northeast Corridor that I have taken.

RNinRVR: Thanks. From what I understand (told by a reliable source) track 1 is closed due to a big track and catenary project going on in NJ. At the end of the project Acela trains will be allowed to go 160 mph.

boejoe: Yes, if I am not mistaken, I am pretty sure there are a few keystones that stop in the morning and evenings during rush hour. I did get a few shots of the NJT stopping on track 2, I just didn't include them because I would have gone over the file size limit.

Last time I was there, I asked the officer if it was ok for me and my son to "watch some trains" and he said it was fine - and we were good for a few hours.

The video brought back some memories when I commuted to Penn Station from Princeton Junction five days a week in 1982-1986. Thanks for posting.

Cheers,

Really nice video. Thanks.

I've always wondered about catenary lines and the pantographs that run against them. Seems like that wear and tear would require replacement relatively often. Does anyone know if that's the case?

Great video. You got the electric power before they get retired. Great job in recording history.

My son and I caught an ACS-64 right there on Easter Sunday. We were having lunch at the Asian Bistro next to the tracks. Great video!
