Passenger Trains > BNSF loses market share to UPDate: 07/25/14 08:05 BNSF loses market share to UP Author: GenePoon http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,3475769
From the article (compare to Amtrak passenger trains delayed a few hours): "BNSF said in its weekly status update that it has 6,329 past-due rail cars mostly in North Dakota, Montana and South Dakota that were an average 24.2 days late as of July 17." As you say, it does not directly intermediate traffic except for what little UP May pick up out of Silver Bow MT through trans loading.

The weather was an excuse for everyone, but BNSF has problems all over its system that have gone on long after the weather issues were passed. They didn't invest in the capacity they needed to accept the traffic they agreed to move. Management in this company is a mess and the recent Trains mag article touting the management was a joke. This looks more and more like the UP meltdown of a decade ago.
