No.49 the Late Shore Limited Late Arrivals into Chicago
Author: wabash2800

4 hours late has became fairly regular. Track work, congestion, a little of both? What is going on?

You name it.
The EB is getting all the publicity, but mile for mile, the LSL and CL are far worse.

i've got a trip in october on the LSL, connecting to the CZ in CHI. normally there's plenty of time to make that connection, but with the on-time performance of #49 lately, i'm not so sure anymore. i was hoping someone could point to something *specific* along the route that they knew of, such as track work, that had an end date. i know things are bad between chicago and porter -- but surely that can't explain all of the delay.

Track work on CSX between Syracuse and Buffalo, might end by late October.

Track work on NS with many miles of temporary single track operation, might end a bit earlier.

If only they kept the Fort Wayne Line intact all the way into Chicago. Send some lower priority freight off the Pennsy east of PGH that way.

Maybe having the Wabash would help as well.

Lots of trains on NS through my hometown of Whiting, IN. At a concert Saturday night at our lake front park next to the tracks, we must have heard 2 dozen trains in a couple of hours.
