Passenger Trains > More delays on the Mohawk

MAPLE LEAF #64 left Utica at 7:48 pm (3'19" LT) and still has not reached Amsterdam as of this writing at 9:30 pm. LAKE SHORE LIMITED #49 left Schenectady at 9:07 pm (1'36" LT) and just got by CP 169 onto CSX's Mohawk Sub. a few minutes ago. From the talk I was able to hear over the Mohawk scanner feed, there is some high water, so the delays between 169 and Utica are probably being caused by flash flood warnings. Don't know what is happening west of Utica that put #64 so far behind.

Wasn't the Mohawk a GTW Detroit-Chicago train? I think I took it back to college upteen years ago.

My April 1971 Official Guide lists GTW trains 164 and 165 just as you remember, Detroit-Chicago!

Lake Shore 49 took 8 hrs,23 mins. to go from Albany-Buffalo vs. scheduled
4 hrs., 50 mins.
ETA Chicago as of 6:15 am Friday is 12:50 pm(e hrs., 05 mins. late)

You are correct. I rode it a few times myself. He is referring to the Mohawk River along which the CSX Mohawk Sub division runs.

According to my info source, they slowed everything down due to flash flood warnings in NY state. They must have been getting rained on really hard again.

Safety First - always. Better to have some late trains than one down an embankment due to a washout.

49 of 21st now has an ETA of 8 hrs., 04 mins. late for Chicago at 5:59 pm
