Amtrak baggage cars

Is it me, or, do I see several Amtrak trains running with the sliding door on the baggage car open. What's up with that?

I've seen a number of baggage cars on the NEC with the doors propped open a bit.

If I had to guess, it would be the air flow in the baggage car wasn't sufficient to allow the baggage handler to do his/her work properly

Usually the door is jammed. I have seen them bring a fork lift to force a closed door open. A problem in the dust, snow, and rain for sure.

It's also a problem of no one knowing anymore about how the "heritage" sliding door mechanisms function. Most of those doors have lasted 50-60 years. The new roll-up doors barely last a year or two.
