Passenger Trains > AAPRCO Special at Burns HarborDate: 09/18/14 16:28 AAPRCO Special at Burns Harbor Author: Mastadon 2014's AAPRCO private car special rolls east on Norfolk Southern's Chicago Line alongside the South Shore at Burns Harbor. The convention will be held in Portland, Maine and the hodge-podge of 26 pieces of Private Varnish was following a trio of freshly cleaned Amtrak P42s.

I think what you are seeing and commenting on is the difference between heavyweight and the more modern lightweight cars. I would guess that the heavyweights were among those where the clerestory roof was modified into what looks like an arch roof.
