Passenger Trains > Question about trains 91 and 92Date: 10/19/14 20:55 Question about trains 91 and 92 Author: Dewman45 Why don't they put the 2ed unit on the back of 91/92 so they don't have to way the train in Tampa, FL. It would safe some time.
Date: 10/19/14 21:56 Re: Question about trains 91 and 92 Author: GenePoon How can that be done when all the equipment is not through-wired to control
the unit on the rear? Date: 10/20/14 03:01 Re: Question about trains 91 and 92 Author: DavidP 1) single level long distance equipment isn't wired to pass through MU control signals
2) it would add complexity to the engine change in DC 3) it's though that long distance passengers prefer not to ride backwards as they would end up doing when the train reverses. Dave Date: 10/20/14 06:18 Re: Question about trains 91 and 92 Author: 3rd_Raton 4) I don't think any Amtrak power is wired for DP operation which would be needed as not all the low level cars are wired for MU

Date: 10/20/14 09:18 Re: Question about trains 91 and 92 Author: ExconR14 Amtrak started adding a second locomotive to Florida bound trains to protect against excessive delays especially during summer months when heat can be oppressive. Excessive delays without air conditioning can prove to be dangerous to the health of passengers. It is also the reason why the locomotives are set up elephant style as opposed to back to back.
