Passenger Trains > Track closed Oceanside-San Diego thru Ot 26

Without any notice on Amtrak web site!!, North County has closed trackage between Oceanside through Sunday Oct 26. Lots of track work.

Some Surfliners cancelled entirely, others will be handled by bus south of Oceanside.

Anyone wanting to travel on Surfliners south of LA should call Amtrak prior to going to station.

Regular schedules north Of Los Angeles.

NO Coaster trains.

Has anyone noticed that Amtrak's maintaining of the Service Disruptions page
on the website has gotten pretty lax lately?

For the apologists it is probably enough that the schedules are updated and
correct, but you'd think Amtrak would care more to keep their clientele
advised; especially in the case of short-notice cancellations like this one.

For this weekend it would properly advise potential passengers who might
look at the schedule and wonder why they can only get there by changing
to/from a bus...and then they'd know it's not like this all the time.

It's not on the Amtrak California website either.

Maybe the North County Transit District didn't notify them.

It has been in the Amtrak Computers and there was no 562 this weekend. It messes up my mileage but I can live with it.

It is only for Saturday and Sunday. Cutting out the switches at the Washington Street wye, cutting in the new Sorrento Valley mainline west of the Coaster station and work on the San Dieguito River Bridge.

At times that site is a joke. the only good thing that site
has. is the games for the kids. Caltrans doesn't have anyone
person maintaining the site. I could go on about the site.
But I don't want to compliment them too much

Why doesn't Caltrans warn us of service disruptions seemings they in part fund most of the operations on the Pacific Surfliners? Technically it is not an Amtrak operation it's a state operation. North County Transit District which owns the line did it's part through their website has warned the public several weeks ago that the line would be shut down on the weekend of 10/25 and 10/26 of 2014. So the people outside of the San Diego County area should look towards Caltrans for future warnings. This all falls on the state of California in my opinion.

I usual take Surfliner 562 down to Oceanside before starting my Metrolink riding for the weekend. Can't do that this weekend is what I meant.

It's in the process of negotiation. No certainty, though.

It is interesting that before the commuter operators took over control of the Surfline, the line was not shut down on weekends for maintenance projects. The weekend were the busy passenger train periods, but now commuters are number one and heavy weekend travel on Amtrak can be sacrificed to keep the lines open on weekdays.

It is probably the best way to do things, but hurt the image of rail passenger service being reliable.

It's all politics. All of this MofW work could be done in the wee hours of the morning and there would be no interruptions of service. Instead, top priority is focused on appeasing, and not angering, the NIMBYs who live near the track. They don't want to hear track machinery grinding away at 3 in the morning.

Remember -- NIMBYs are also voters.
