Passenger Trains > Amtrak Vet's leads 50 east on the Buckingham Branch RRDate: 10/25/14 08:50 Amtrak Vet's leads 50 east on the Buckingham Branch RR Author: hdralleiii Yesterday I was driving south to pickup my son near Roanoke, VA and a friend sent a message that Amtrak unit #42 (Vet's Unit) was leading PO50 eastbound near Staunton. Timing was near perfect as I jumped off the interstate, he was departing the station stop downtown. After about a 2 minute wait, 42 popped into the sun behind the Augusta Co-op facility. Shots are just west of I-81 near the "Brand" siding.
Enjoy! Hank Date: 10/25/14 08:58 Re: Amtrak Vet's leads 50 east on the Buckingham Branch Author: Chessie1963 Two locos on the bird yesterday? Are there private cars to ferry or perhaps some other reason two locomotives were on point?

It was assigned to the New River excursion train but was swapped out for some reason. Consist was 7 cars. Perhaps trailing unit had issues although I think 50 left Chicago with 2 units if they dropped a replacement for New River Train. May have added second to keep HEP and air up while making the 42 swap.
