Passenger Trains > Crossing Arroyo Honda CreekDate: 11/19/14 17:59 Crossing Arroyo Honda Creek Author: walstib Pacific Surfliner 790, the afternoon departure from San Luis Obispo, glides across the Arroyo Honda Creek trestle at Milepost 340.25 in Santa Barbara County today.
The 541-foot-long trestle stands 75-feet-tall and is comprised of eight 30-foot deck girders, and five 60-foot deck girders fabricated by the Phoenix Bridge Co. in 1898, according to the written history "Closing The Gap, The Coast Line and its Bridges in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties," by Nan Lawler. The bridge was erected in 1900 and reinforced with additional bents in 1935, according to Lawler. The concrete structure at the base of the bridge is a fish ladder to help steelhead trout spawn. The arched concrete bridge inland from the rail trestle formerly carried Highway 101 traffic. Date: 11/20/14 07:47 Re: Crossing Arroyo Honda Creek Author: 3rdswitch Still another great "quad" shot.
