Not surprised... Too bad there isn't a train from Chicago to Atlanta....

Also from the Indy Star...

SEYMOUR, Ind. – An early morning bus crash closed down parts of northbound I-65 near Seymour, Ind.

Indiana State Police dispatchers say a Megabus flipped on its side near the 55 mile marker just north of the city. Police responded to the crash about 5:30 a.m., according to a news release. Two drivers and 26 passengers were on the bus when it slid off the road into the median.

The bus had been moved and traffic flow restored by approximately 10 a.m.

Several injuries were reported, but dispatchers say they all seem to be minor. Some people were transported to nearby Schneck Medical Center. One passenger, police said, was transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment while uninjured passengers were taken to Seymour Middle School for shelter.

Police said changing weather and speed may have caused the crash. Several other crashes were reported in the area early Saturday morning.

The investigation is ongoing.

There was a similar Megabus crash on I-65 in October....

26 passengers won't break any records

glad nobody was seriously injured

the 5am time is interesting, wonder how long the driver had been up, and what his rest schedule had been

both will likely be of interest to NTSB

In Louisville, Ky. we had some ice and snow this morning. Seymour is 55 to 60 miles north of us. Speeding and ice. Not a great combination. It might cause some traction problems on rails but the flanges usually keep it all lined up in a row.

It makes a case for the Hoosier State's retention, not that I wish these things to happen.

Sure, the NTSB might be interested. But anyone else? What type of enforcement "teeth" are in effect for hours-of-service violations?

The Federal Highway Administration has shut down some carriers for violations. Fung-Wah out of Boston for one

Funny you should mention Fung-Wah. There was a piece just this week about the owners trying to get back into the interstate business. Their related company apparently does a lot of in state charters in NY and MA.

They'll probably get the OK. They've lined up several legislators, and the Chinese-American vote is very powerful in NY.

The newspaper articles say there were two drivers on the bus. Sleep shouldn't have a problem.

Not really... Seymour is well south of Indianapolis. The "Kentucky Cardinal" went through there, but its schedule was even more of a joke than the Hoosier State's is.

The Hoosier State goes to Seymour??

Does it matter ? The point is Megabus and I-65 combo is not a good thing.

If there are two drivers, the other driver should be in an enclosed bunk. It's kind of a grey area in the motorcoach industry.

No way is bus travel as safe as rail travel, but Americans are too stupid to know that.

I agree with your statement, however it is a lot more direct to take a bus, car or plane from Chicago to Atlanta than a train--unless one wants to see New Orleans or NYC on the way.

It sure does seem MegaBus is in the news considerably more than Greyhound. Is there any statistical safety comparisons on PPM basis between the two companies?

Are those double deck coaches top heavy or afflicted with a center of gravity issue?
